Zigbee as a Standard The zigbee standard is administered by the Zigbee Alliance and is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. These standards have been the result of collaboration from a hundreds of engineers from all over the world. IEEE 802.15.4 defines the physical layer characteristics of the zigbee standard. It defines radio bands, frequencies and protocols that Zigbee uses. Maco Lighting chose to use hardware that adheres to the Zigbee standard because it has been proven in the field. Using a standards based technology over a proprietary versions can reduce the number of errors and cost and increases interoperability with other devices. The zigbee standard was created with industrial automation and data collection in mind, making it suitable for use in many environments. | |
